Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer Release Date Confirmed by Rockstar Games

Rockstar Games has officially announced the release date for the Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) trailer, confirming it via a tweet. The highly-anticipated crime odyssey sequel’s first footage will be unveiled on Tuesday, December 5, at 7:30 pm IST in India / 9 am ET in the US. The publisher accompanied the announcement with an image of a sunset and palm tree silhouettes, confirming earlier speculation about the game being set in a fictionalized version of Miami, resembling a return to Vice City. Despite this revelation, it’s apparent that Geoff Keighley won’t present the trailer at The Game Awards 2023, although teasers or screenshots may still be possible.

Details about GTA 6 have been scarce since a significant data leak in mid-2022, showcasing alleged in-development gameplay featuring the lead crime couple, supposedly Jason and Lucia, robbing a diner in broad daylight. Notably, this installment introduces the franchise’s first female protagonist, breaking away from the controversial portrayal of women in previous titles. Rockstar has yet to disclose an official title for the game, referring to it simply as the ‘next Grand Theft Auto,’ leaving room for speculation about potential spin-offs with unique subtitles. The anticipated sequel, hinted at during a May earnings call, suggests a potential launch window in the fiscal year 2025 (starting April 2024 for Rockstar).

Recent changes to the studio’s online multiplayer service involve rebranding from ‘Social Club’ to the ‘Rockstar Games platform,’ alongside modifications to the logo, hinting at significant transformations. As anticipation for GTA 6 escalated, GTA Online continued to serve as a lucrative multiplayer venture for Rockstar. The fate of existing Social Club members remains uncertain, with questions arising about potential data migration for the upcoming entry.

Grand Theft Auto V, released in 2013, boasts global sales of 190 million copies as of October, receiving minor upgrades to suit two console generations. In a recent announcement, Rockstar confirmed that the remastered Grand Theft Auto trilogy will be accessible on Netflix from December 14, exclusively on Android, iOS, and the Netflix phone app.

GTA 6 is expected to debut on current-gen PS5 and Xbox Series S/X before reaching the PC, following the pattern set by previous Rockstar releases.
